Formation:

The Support Group was formed early in 2008. and is affiliated with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

The group has two main aims:

  • to provide support to men diagnosed with prostate cancer (and their partners/families)

  • to raise awareness and provide education about prostate cancer to the wider community

Activities:

The group meets monthly. We endeavour to have a relevant guest speaker at least every second month. All meetings are open to the public. Partners are encouraged to attend. We invite everyone to join us for supper after the meeting/speaker.

Meeting dates are set at the beginning of the year, but can be changed if we have the opportunity to utilise a guest speaker who may be visiting the city. All meetings are advertised in the local press and on local ABC radio.

Books, DVDs, etc on prostate cancer and associated topics are available for loan, either at meetings or by contacting any of our members listed above. We also have a large range of information which we distribute throughout the local community.

We provide information packages to our local hospital which can be given out to anyone diagnosed with prostate cancer.

We are also involved with special projects, such as facilitating the provision of prostate cancer posters in men’s toilets in all local clubs and hotels.
