Our Support Group:
We now have a steering committee of 10 members both men and women, and myself, John Gardyne as convener,
We are there to offer support to newly diagnosed cancer patients, prostate cancer survivors, wives, partners, family and friends. We have guest speakers at the meetings speaking on various topics. The 3
local newspapers and our community newspapers give us great coverage to the public in our effort to get the message out about our group. Specific specialists, doctors surgeries, our 2 hospitals, and other cancer departments both Gov and private, also
are spreading the awareness of our support group.
The group have a range of free literature, books, and DVD’s, some of which are free and some for loaning out.
We have a good support network for the carers, as I feel they are sometimes the forgotten ones, when one is suffering.
As we are a new group, and as many of our members are grey nomads, we have not had any interest in activities at this stage, but with summer coming on and an average attendance of 12 at most meetings, we
will be having social outings to network more in the future.
We have a light supper afterwards and I find that is very important because some people won’t speak up in front of a crowd they don’t know but will enjoys a one on one chat.
