Activities:
Men at all stages of their cancer
journey attend. Some men are ten years post treatment, others are
newly diagnosed. The meetings generally start with a guest speaker.
Several of the local Specialists are signed up as speakers each
year. We also discuss complementary and supportive therapies. At
every meeting one member gives a ten minute talk on his or her
personal journey.
After the speaker presents we have an informal chat and nibblies.
This is a good opportunity for members to catch up and offer support
to one another.
Twice a year we go out to a restaurant or club for a social
function.
Some members are also involved in fundraising to assist local cancer
patients.
Members also attend the new patient prostate education day once a
month at the Cancer Institute to talk about the group and encourage
new patients to join.
The group is well supported by the local Oncologists and Urologists
who promote the group in their rooms. The members are a proactive,
lively group of men and women who are very welcoming to new members.
