Formation:

The Illawarra Prostate Cancer Support Group was formed in 1996 following an initiative of the Illawarra Area Health.

Under the leadership of Sister Gloria Swift and the Urology unit at Figtree the group has offered support and assistance for men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

In 2005 the group became an affiliated member of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and continues to offer support and assistance under the professional guidance of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

 

Activities:

Meetings :

The Illawarra Prostate Cancer Support Group meet every 2nd Thursday of each month at St. Marks Anglican Church hall, West Wollongong (just west of Wollongong hospital)

  • Time : 7.00pm

  • Parking : Convenient parking is available in the church grounds.

  • Supper : A light super is provided

Meetings are very social and informal. Men’s partners are invited for support and understanding.

Meetings are conducted in the following manner.

  • Welcome address, with special welcome to new members. Invitation to new members to discuss their condition and give opportunity to ask questions.

  • Most meetings have a guest speaker to present on prostate issues and/or general health issues.

  • Distribution of a monthly news letter, plus a quarterly news letter from PCFA.

  • Social get together with light supper after the meeting.
