Formation:

The Tamworth & district Prostate Cancer Support Group was formed about 2003 under the leadership of Dr John Trollor. The group is incorporated and is affiliated with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and The Cancer Council of NSW.

The group attempts to service Tamworth and the surrounding district including Attunga, Bendemeer, Currabulula, Kootingal, Moonbi, Manilla, Somerton, Werris Creek, and Quirindi.

Activities:

The group aims to support men and their families through up-to-date information, provision of interesting guest speakers, and encouragement through difficult times.

Our meeting format includes guest speakers, discussions, videos, etc

A newsletter is produced each month and is sent to those who are members.

Contact is made with members by post, email, and local newspaper. Contact is made by telephone with those who find it difficult or impossible to get to meetings. Transport to meetings can be arranged by request.

Information available to members includes borrowing DVD’s, borrowing books, issuing of free pamphlets, and the provision of other literature that becomes available
Our activities include support, advocacy, and awareness. A Christmas barbeque is held in December. Local specialists are advised of the group’s existence and and have been requested to alert patients to the benefits of support groups. The group does not have a web site.
We are generally not involved in fund raising
