Most meetings are
'interactive' with a mix of old hands and new people sharing their
stories. You can expect open discussion where men and partners share
experiences of dealing with the impact of cancer on their lives. You
may acquire practical information and perhaps find out what
questions to ask your Medical Practitioner or where to source
information or help that is needed. Regularly, schedule meetings
will incorporate a more formal presentation by qualified speakers.
Literature, Tapes, Videos and earlier newsletters are available at
meetings. Although most people have some concerns or even
apprehension about attending a Prostate Awareness Group meeting for
the first time, the comment most often heard after the first meeting
is "I can't believe that the hours have gone by, and that I'm
feeling so good, less stressed, unlike when I arrived". Feeling
"better" might be just be because you are not alone. Newly
diagnosed, their partners, family members and anyone from the
community who are interested in acquiring information about prostate
cancer are all welcome.
