Formation

The Hunter Prostate Cancer Awareness and Support Group was originally established in 1999 under the auspices of the Newcastle Mater Hospital.

The group continues to grow and is supported by local people who give of their time on a voluntary basis and is also supported by a number of different organisations such as the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australiaand the Cancer Council of NSW with continuing support given from the Newcastle Calvary Mater Hospital.

Activities

We aim to contribute any new information that can help achieve a healthy lifestyle and improve overall wellbeing to our members. In this regard we try to have a guest speaker at each of our meetings who can contribute with ideas and resources. We have had many specialists in their field come and chat to the group on a great variety of subjects.

The meetings are informal, and a great way for people to get together to discuss their issues and concerns, or just to meet others who have been through the same experiences and can lend a sympathetic ear.

Members are also asked to speak for different groups at functions held around the Hunter on the topic of Prostate cancer and what is available in our region.
