About the speakers:

Urologist Mr Phil Dundee is a urological surgeon with expertise in robotic and advanced laparoscopic urology and urologic cancers.  As well as his passion for surgery, Mr Dundee is committed to teaching the next generation of urologists and keeping up with advances in surgery and medicine. He is a consultant urologist at the Epworth Prostate Centre and has been involved in establishing the robotic surgery program at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

He has recently returned from the UK, where he spent a year training with one of the world’s most experienced laparoscopic surgeons. His current appointments are: Consultant Urologist at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peninsula Health & Western General Hospital. He is Director of Ambulatory Care, Prostate Cancer Centre, and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer, University of Melbourne.

Mr Dundee's presentation will provide a summary of the symptoms and treatment options for localized prostate.

 

A/Professor Ken Sikaris was appointed Director of Chemical Pathology at St Vincent's Hospital in 1993 and Medical Director of Dorevitch Pathology in 1998 before starting at Melbourne Pathology in 2003. He specialises in Prostate Specific Antigen, cholesterol and quality assurance and has been involved in the pathology of PSA since it was discovered as a marker for Prostate Cancer. A/Prof Sikaris is a Principal Fellow of the Department of Pathology at Melbourne University and lectures to undergraduates, GPs and a variety of specialist groups across Australia and overseas.

A/Professor Sikaris's presentation will provide the audience with a clear understanding of what PSA is and its importance in the diagnosis and monitoring of the progression of prostate cancer for men with local and advanced disease.

 

Professor H. Miles Prince AM is an internationally recognised Australian Haematologist. He is a Professor at both Melbourne and Monash universities and is a Fellow of the prestigious Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. He is also engaged in major stem cell research and the mechanisms of the immune systems. In January 2016, Professor Prince was appointed as Professor Director of Molecular Oncology and Cancer Immunology at the new Genomics Centre at Epworth Healthcare where his research involves how the immune system interacts with blood cancers.

Professor Prince holds major Australian, American and European research grants and has published over 370 journal articles. He is a member of the Australian, America and European Societies of Haematology. His work has been recognised with an Order of Australia.

Professor Prince's presentation will provide a summary of the history of cancer treatments with a focus on how genomics and immunotherapy will impact on the management of prostate cancer treatment in future years.
