PCFA has successfully secured an exhibit space at the upcoming Newdegate Machinery Field Days 2024. Support groups in WA will lead the exhibit stall throughout the event, including Southsiders Prostate Cancer Support Group, based out of Gosnells, and Albany Prostate Cancer Support Group in WA’s Great Southern Region.

Running September 4th & 5th 2024 at Newdegate, a townsite in the Great Southern agricultural region, 400kms south-east of Perth, the event is one of the states premier agricultural events. Hosting a world class agricultural machinery display and now including livestock, family and recreational interests the support group presence is a significant opportunity to create awareness in the WA regional and agricultural community.

Around 70 Australian men are diagnosed each day with prostate cancer, that’s one every 20 minutes or 25,487 each year. Every day, more than 10 Australian men also die each day of prostate cancer.

Research has found that men in regional or rural areas have approximately 24% higher risk of dying from prostate cancer than their urban counterparts. Prostate cancer support groups like Southsiders and Albany Prostate Cancer Support Groups are seeking to help fix this problem by raising awareness of early detection and the very latest treatments.

Ian Mawson of Southsiders Prostate Cancer Support Group says “Ultimately, we hope to recognise the important role of the Western Australian agricultural community in supporting men impacted by prostate cancer, to deliver on our joint goals of sustainable growth, good health and community prosperity”.

Meanwhile, leader of Albany Prostate Cancer Support Group Greg Kidd added: “These groups are generally a bedrock of community outreach for those impacted by the disease — particularly in rural regions — who know only too well, the power of awareness and how spreading knowledge to promote early detection can save lives.”
