Bacteria in prostate gland

Millions of bacteria and other parasitic organisms live in our bodies. Collectively they are referred to as our microbiota. The human microbiota has essential roles such as aiding the digestion of food and regulating immune responses. New research has asked whether the microbiota has a connection to prostate cancer. The results are somewhat surprising – the prostate is home to hundreds of different species of bacteria. This week’s blog asks which bacteria these are and what they are doing in the prostate gland?
