Australia’s Governor General His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) has recognised PCFA's Chief of Mission and Head of Research, Professor Jeff Dunn AO, in a Special Reception at Admiralty House in Sydney.

His Excellency convened the Special Reception in honour of Professor Dunn’s lifetime contributions to cancer control and his Presidency of the Union for International Cancer Control, a position the Professor commenced in October 2022.

The VIP guest list included Australian and international cancer control researchers, policy makers, professionals, and survivors.

His Excellency spoke of Professor Dunn’s contribution as one of Australia's longest serving cancer charity executives and a recognised World Cancer Leader.

Professor Dunn is also distinguished by his service as Professor Social and Behavioural Science and Chair Cancer Survivorship at the University of Southern Queensland and as a Board Member and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee for the West Moreton Hospital and Health Service.

The occasion was an opportunity for Australia’s Governor-General to recognise Jeff’s appointment as President of the Union for International Cancer Control in October 2022, following his long-term service on the UICC Board in various capacities.

His Excellency remarked on Professor Dunn’s 30-year track record of service to the UICC, to international cancer control, and to Australian men and families affected by prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s National Chairman, Adjunct Associate Professor Steve Callister, also spoke at the function, praising the Professor’s contribution.

“To be voted by his peers for global leadership is truly a testimony of the impact that Jeff has had. It also speaks to the increasing relevance and role of PCFA and Australian cancer control advocates in reducing the worldwide burden of cancer.”
