Icon Cancer Centre staff are leading the charge to help raise awareness of prostate cancer by joining Walk for Him for Men’s Health Week (June 9-15).
The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) campaign calls on Australians to walk just 25km throughout Men’s Health Week to raise funds for research and support services.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with one man diagnosed every 20 minutes.
Icon has come on board as a sponsor for the June event, with various prizes up for grabs to help inspire and motivate participants to take a step forward towards PCFA’s goal of zero deaths from prostate cancer.
Icon Cancer Centre CEO Paul Fenton said he was proud to continue the strong partnership.
“I’ll be walking 25 kilometres throughout Men’s Health Week, proudly leading our Icon fundraising team and encouraging staff and partners across our network to get involved and show their support,” Mr Fenton said.
“Receiving a prostate cancer diagnosis, no matter what age, can trigger fear and uncertainty. Patients often feel overwhelmed when navigating treatment options and may struggle with both physical and emotional side effects.
“The best way we can support them is by partnering with organisations like PCFA to provide expert, patient-centred support that helps men navigate their treatment with confidence.
“We’re proud to have PCFA Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses embedded in several Icon Cancer Centre locations, working alongside our teams to provide expert guidance, continuity of care, and leading support.”
Locals are encouraged to get behind the organisation and join the Walk for Him movement to save lives.
Participants can walk 25kms, or a distance of their choice, in solidarity with men and families impacted by prostate cancer.
PCFA CEO, Anne Savage, commended the Icon team for making a difference.
“Community action is key to cancer control, helping us to raise awareness of Australia’s most commonly diagnosed cancer and encourage early detection,” Ms Savage said.
“It’s a disease that takes a significant toll not just on men, but also on their partners and families, and on our community.
“All funds raised during Walk for Him will support men and their families, clinical trials, prostate cancer nurses, and our nationwide telenursing service.
“With 1 in 5 Australian men likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, local action has never been so important.”
