Tyrepower is leading the charge to help raise awareness of prostate cancer by joining Walk for Him for Men’s Health Week (June 9-15).
The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) campaign calls on Australians to walk just 25km throughout Men’s Health Week to raise funds for research and support services.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with one man diagnosed every 20 minutes.
Tyrepower has come on board as a major partner for the June event, encouraging participants to take a step forward towards PCFA’s goal of zero deaths from prostate cancer.
Tyrepower General Manager Rob Smith (pictured) said he was proud to support the campaign.
“As a prostate cancer survivor, I have seen first-hand the difference that these campaigns have in raising vital funds for research and support services,” he said.
“I couldn’t have gone through my diagnosis without PCFA’s support, and I want to ensure no one else has to face prostate cancer alone.
“Not only do we get out to walk 25km throughout the week, but we use the opportunity to help push a vital message to Aussie men.
“A PSA test is just a simple blood test. It takes a shorter amount of time than changing a spare tyre, and it can save your life.
“You don’t have a spare life like you have a spare tyre, so every man out there should be proactive about prostate cancer to help detect it early.”
Australians are encouraged to get behind the organisation and join the Walk for Him movement to save lives.
Participants can walk 25kms, or a distance of their choice, in solidarity with men and families impacted by prostate cancer.
PCFA CEO, Anne Savage, commended the Tyrepower team for making a difference.
“Community action is key to cancer control, helping us to raise awareness of Australia’s most commonly diagnosed cancer and encourage early detection,” Ms Savage said.
“It’s a disease that takes a significant toll not just on men, but also on their partners and families, and on our community.
“All funds raised during Walk for Him will support men and their families, clinical trials, prostate cancer nurses, and our nationwide telenursing service.
“With 1 in 5 Australian men likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, local action has never been so important.”
