The Victorian Council of Prostate Cancer Support Groups has hailed its second Leaders Conference a resounding success, with overwhelming support from attendees to continue building momentum for men and families impacted by prostate cancer.

Held on July 26–27 2025, the conference brought together 34 representatives from 17 of the 29 support groups across Victoria, both in person and via Zoom.

Guest speakers included PCFA CEO Anne Savage, PC Outcomes Register representative Nik Zeps, of, A/Prof Mitchell Lawrence from Monash University, and Australian Prostate Centre CEO Mark Harrison, offering insights into research, clinical outcomes, and advocacy.

“Hearing from such high-calibre speakers reminded us that our grassroots efforts are part of something much larger,” Mr Gebert, Victorian Council Chair.

With six leaders meeting monthly on the Council and three new representatives recently appointed, the momentum is set to continue.

Mr Gerbert said the weekend reinforced the importance of collaboration.

“The overwhelming feedback we received was that this Council is making a real difference,” he said.

“Leaders left the weekend energised, connected, and determined to keep growing support for men and their families.”

Since its inception two years ago, the Council has helped groups expand and thrive.

“One of the Council’s key initiatives is the Blue Man, a symbol created to raise awareness and promote support groups. Last year, thanks to a grant from PCFA, 1,000 of these stickers were produced and distributed to groups across Victoria.

“We’ve been able to encourage more men to attend our groups, and have seen 273 new members join in the past year alone,” Mr Gebert said.

“These numbers show more men are finding the support they need, when they need it.”

Mr Gebert said it’s all about starting conversations, breaking down stigma, and reminding men they are not alone.

“We’ve only just begun.

"We aim to ensure every man in Victoria knows where to turn for support – and that he finds a community ready to welcome him.”
