Kevin Burfett is taking on a 24-hour golf driving challenge to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer after seeing the impact of the disease on his dad and family.
His father was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year, giving Kevin a first-hand understanding of how many Australian families are affected.
“Seeing firsthand the impact it had on him and our family made me realise just how common this disease is,” Kevin says.
“I wanted to do something meaningful to help raise awareness and funds for research and support services.”
Kevin will take on the challenge at X-Golf Ashmore, playing golf continuously for 24 hours from 7am on June 27 to 7am on June 28.
The event will include a range of fundraising activities, including nearest-to-the-pin challenges, longest drive competitions and a “Beat the Pro” challenge, with proceeds going towards prostate cancer research, awareness and support programs.
Golf was a natural choice for Kevin, who says the sport has a unique ability to bring people together.
“Golf is something I’m incredibly passionate about, and it’s a sport that naturally brings people together,” he says.
“It creates an environment where men can connect, have conversations, support one another and check in on each other. I felt it was the perfect platform to raise awareness for a cause that affects so many men.”
To prepare, Kevin has been focusing on healthy eating, building his endurance by spending more time on the course, and reaching out to local businesses for prizes and items that can be auctioned or raffled.
He hopes the challenge encourages more men to speak with their GP and take their health seriously.
“My biggest message is simple: don’t put off getting checked,” Kevin says. “Early detection can make a significant difference, and I hope this challenge encourages men to have conversations with their doctor.”
Supporters can donate through Kevin’s fundraising page, share the campaign with friends and family, or visit X-Golf Ashmore during the 24-hour event to take part in the challenges.

Kevin says every donation will help make a difference for men and their families impacted by prostate cancer.
“Every dollar raised through the event will go towards supporting prostate cancer research, awareness and support programs,” he says.
