Ricardo Goncalves
Ricardo Goncalves is a presenter, and finance editor for SBS World News and fronts Small Business Secrets. He has covered news globally, filing stories from the Middle East, LA and New York’s Ground Zero. He started his television career in 1998, as a regional reporter at WIN News Wollongong and has appeared on Today Tonight Sydney, Seven News Sydney, Sunrise, Nine News Melbourne, Sky News and Sky News Business.
His most memorable pieces of work include interviews with Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva and Virgin’s Sir Richard Branson. He’s a keen public speaker, holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Economics, and has a Portuguese background.
About the Panel
Dr Jane Crowe | General Practitioner
Dr Jane E. Crowe, MBBS, is a general practitioner with 26 years of experience in all aspects of primary care and extensive expertise in advanced prostate cancer. She maintains a position at Deepdene Surgery in Deepdene, Victoria, Australia, which she established in 1989. In 2011, she commenced working one day per week as a Prostate Cancer Physician at the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre Epworth, in Melbourne, also referred to as the Epworth Prostate Centre. The clinic is now a multidisciplinary clinic for men with advanced prostate cancer. In this role, she sees men with advanced prostate cancer, often on Androgen Deprivation Therapy, or ADT. Dr. Crowe maintains a clinical role which entails monitoring and counselling men and their partners and the effects of the ADT. She puts their cancer into perspective and in the context of any co-morbid conditions and their psychological situations. Furthermore, she also participates in a multidisciplinary team meeting and clinic weekly at APCRCE and is involved in research projects. Dr Crowe has participated as a convener of GP educational events at the Australian Prostate Cancer Conference and also organized the committee of the Inaugural Prostate Cancer World Congress in Melbourne. Furthermore, Dr Crowe is very active in teaching the future generation of general practitioners. Dr. Crowe has research interests in improving prostate cancer care of patients, particularly in general practice.
Dr Peter Heathcote | Urologist
ADJUNCT PROFESSOR PETER HEATHCOTE | MBBS (Qld), FRACS (Urol) | PAST PRESIDENT OF THE UROLOGICAL SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
Dr Heathcote is a Urologic Surgeon with a special interest in cancer of the prostate. He was born and raised in Brisbane and completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland. After completing his intern year at Cairns Hospital, he then worked rurally at Longreach hospital in western Queensland before starting general surgical and urology training in Townsville, then Brisbane. After completing urological specialty training, Dr Heathcote spent time in Cardiff, United Kingdom and Toronto, Canada. Dr Heathcote is an Adjunct Professor at the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre Queensland (APCRC-Q) School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health at the Queensland University of Technology. With his colleagues at Brisbane Urology Clinic, he was able to establish the first robotic prostatectomy program in Queensland after training in the United States of America. Dr Heathcote has published many scientific papers on prostate cancer and the effects on quality of life in Australian men.
Thomas Harris | Continence Physiotherapist
Tom is a motivated and passionate Men's Health Physiotherapist, currently working at Target Physio, while also being the curator at menshealth.physio. He graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Exercise and a Master of Physiotherapy. Whilst at University, his passion for Men's Health was born, during a lecture where he was made aware of just how little he understood about male incontinence, prostate cancer and erectile function. Tom decided to go and learn as much as he could from those currently working in the field. He currently works closely with a number of urologists, where they contribute knowledge together to get the best outcomes for their patients. This lack of education and knowledge regarding the role of physiotherapy in the men's health field, was the inspiration for his website, menshealth.physio. Launched in 2018, he plans to use this website to provide the most up to date education and research for all men with issues below the belt. In 2019 he presented a short review on the role of physical activity in penile rehabilitation at the Australian Physiotherapy Conference.
Kerry Sontorro | PFCA Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse
Kerry has been a registered nurse for 24 years, working in both private and public clinical settings. She currently works at Southern Adelaide Local Health Network as the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse, within the urology unit. She has completed a Masters of Nursing Science, and post graduate studies in urological and continence nursing. Kerry is actively involved in the Australian and New Zealand Urological Nurses Society, having presented and convened at past national conferences and is a past state president and current state representative.
