Evolution of prostate cancer cells helps to identify aggressive tumours

Tumours evolve by changes to their DNA. These DNA mutations can change how the tumour is behaving, making it more aggressive and able to overcome drug treatments. A new study has used techniques from evolutionary genetics to analyse the history of DNA mutations in prostate cancer cells from hundreds of patients. Their results showed that the evolutionary history of a prostate cancer can help predict which tumours would become aggressive in the future.
