Nicki Anderson is going alcohol-free this July to raise funds for Aussie men and families impacted by prostate cancer, in support of Prostate Cancer Foundation’s campaign for Dry July.

The Sydney local is a local is a member of the PCFA board, and said it’s a cause the entire community has shown they care about.

“For me, getting involved is two-fold. To be a healthier me, and to raise funds to improve the comfort, care and wellbeing of people impacted by cancer,” Nicki said.

“My dad was one of the unlucky ones to die from prostate cancer.

“I want to raise awareness and funds for life-changing nurses – both on the ground and through the new Prostate Cancer Specialist Telenursing Service.”

Ms Anderson called on locals to continue getting behind the cause.

“I would love you to virtually buy me a drink and donate those funds to Dry July instead – or virtually buy a round of drinks, and donate those funds to Dry July. It’s a small gesture that can make a big difference in the fight against prostate cancer.”

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia CEO Prof Jeff Dunn AO commended Nicki for joining thousands of everyday Aussies who have gone Dry for July.

“This a wonderful way for people to get healthy while they give back, enabling us to support men and families in the local area impacted by prostate cancer,” Prof Dunn said.

“Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in this region and is a major burden for local families, with nearly 17,000 Australian men diagnosed each year.

“By saying yes to Dry July, you are also supporting our long-term investment in nearly 100 Specialist Nurses, and our recent commitment of $1.6M towards a ground-breaking new clinical trial to help prevent more than 3,100 prostate cancer deaths each year.

“We know that men benefit from seeing our nurses by coping better with their diagnosis and navigating the health system more capably, significantly improving their quality of life and survivorship outcomes.

“With your help, we can ensure these men, and their families, do not need to navigate prostate cancer alone.

“So please, swap out your wine or beer for a water or tea, and donate what you’d spend on drinks to PCFA to help save lives. We can’t do it without you.”
